Pro is an optional upgrade that adds smart search, related notes, automatic labels, dictation, reminders from a sentence and an API on top.

Smart search, related notes, automatic labels, dictation, reminders from a sentence, and a Tidy up that matches by meaning. Ask in plain English, like “racket sports”, “cooking notes before 2020” or “anything about Alexia”, and it finds notes by what they mean, not just the words in them. It understands dates such as “last summer” or “in March 2023”, colours, and kinds of note like lists, images, reminders and links, and it shows you what it understood. Switch to Exact words when you only want the words you typed. Each note also lists the notes closest to it in meaning. It finds notes; it doesn’t write answers or chat. With dictation you press the microphone and talk, and your words appear in the note as you go; in a list, each thing you say becomes its own item. It works in English, for up to 60 minutes a day, and the audio is never kept. Say “remind me in ten minutes to call the bank” and the note offers to set that reminder. Once you’ve labelled a few notes, Pro can put that label on new notes about the same thing by itself, and Tidy up finds notes that say nearly the same thing in other words. Pro also includes an API and an MCP server, so AI apps such as Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, and your own scripts, can find, read and add notes. Connect an app by signing in, or with a key you create in Settings. Pro is $20 a year or $50 once, and you can get a full refund within 14 days.

No. Smart search and dictation run on Tack Notes’ own servers with open-source models. Your notes and your voice stay on our servers and are never sent to an outside AI company, and recordings are never kept.

Only what you let it. Tack Notes’ own features never send your notes to an outside AI company. If you connect another app, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, by signing in from it or with a key from Settings, that app can read the notes it asks for, and add or change notes if you allowed that. What it does next is up to that app and its own privacy policy. Remove it in Settings and it stops straight away.

Yes, in your browser and in the Android app. If the connection drops, keep writing: new notes and edits are saved on your device and sync by themselves when you’re back online. Nothing you type is lost, even if you close the tab. Once you’ve used Tack Notes on a device, it also opens with no signal and shows your board as you last saw it. Images, sharing and the trash still need a connection. Google Keep works offline in its phone apps, but its website needs a connection.

Every note and checklist, with titles, ticked items, colours, labels, pinned, archived and trashed notes, images, saved links, and the dates each note was created and last edited. Reminders come too if you also tick Tasks in Google Takeout, where Google now keeps them; repeating ones arrive as one-off. Notes you shared in Keep arrive as your own; share them again in Tack Notes.

Nothing is duplicated. Tack Notes recognises notes it has already imported and skips them, so you can import again later to pick up anything new.

Yes, for free. Open Tidy up in the menu and Tack Notes shows notes with the same words in groups, which helps if your Keep account had a few copies of things. For each group, keep the newest (the others go to the trash, with Undo), combine them into one, or say they’re different so they never come up together again. Pro also finds notes that say nearly the same thing in other words.

Google Takeout exports them as a .zip file. Our step-by-step guide shows exactly which boxes to tick; it takes a couple of minutes, then Google emails you a download link.

Yes, on Android. The app is free and in early access, installed from tacknotes.com while it waits for the Play Store. It has reminders that ring with no signal, a home screen widget and a Quick Settings tile. On an iPhone, Tack Notes runs in the browser and you can add it to your home screen.

With Google, Microsoft or Yahoo, or with an email and password. You can change it later in Settings, under How you sign in: switch to Google, Microsoft or Yahoo in one tap, or remove your password once one of those is connected.

Only you, and the people you choose to share a note or a label with. You decide whether each person can edit or only view, and the Sharing page shows everyone in one place. Images in your notes load through private links that stop working after a day or two, so an image address that gets passed around can’t be opened for long.

Turn on two-step sign-in in Settings, with an authenticator app and recovery codes. Settings also shows where you’re signed in, and Sign out everywhere else signs out every other browser and phone at once. Changing your password does the same. Wrong passwords are limited per account, so nobody can keep guessing.
